Message From the Artist
A person should feel comfortable in their clothes, but most importantly in their own body. Clothes shouldn’t hide or camouflage “imperfections”, but celebrate and open the door – even just a crack – to the person you can be. If you feel fancy, or moody, or earthy, or fresh; if you feel vulnerable, dysphoric, or in need of a shield, what you wear can serve you in that moment. I aim to design versatile garments that serve your needs, on both good days and hard days.
Inspiration
When you work in theatre, some shows stay with you evermore – for me, it was a show chock full of suits and uniforms. The relationships I made, and the challenges & celebrations I shared in the making of that one show will always flavor my designs; especially when given the chance to design more suiting!
Future of Sustainable Fashion
I remember learning Reduce-Reuse-Recycle as early as 7 years old. Today, we are very familiar with the “Recycle” step, but have forgotten to “Reduce” and are unsure how to “Reuse”. Once more normalizing mending worn clothes, remaking damaged garments into something new and useful, and developing innovations to better sort the different fabrics/metals/plastics from discarded clothing for recycling is a wonderful goal. Imagine: where once we just made clothes from plastic bottles, we could also make plastic bottles from old clothes!
